چکیده

Computational fluid mechanics based on the finite element method has been developed so far following two distinct approaches (a) using a stream function, or stream functlon-vortlcity formulation [1,2], and (b) using a primitive variables formulation [3,4,5]. Within the first approach a stream function is defined such that the continuity equation is identically satisfied and the momentum equations are combined into a single equation expressed in terms of stream function, or stream function and vorticity. In the second approach velocities and pressure become the main variables of the working equation system. The finite element method is then implemented via a variational, quasi-variational approach or the method of weighted residuals [6,7,8,9].

A Hybrid Finite Element Method for Stokes Flow: Part I-formulation and Numerical Studies

A hybrid finite element scheme, based on assumed deviatoric fluid stresses in the element and continuous velocity fields at the element-boundaries, is presented. The deviatoric stress and hydrostatic pressure field are subject a priori to the constraints of balance of momenta. the advantages of the present scheme are discussed, and its versatility is demonstrated through a few numerical example...

A New Numerical Study Method of Thermal Stress Distribution and Tortuosity Effectiveness in an Anode Porous Electrode for a Planar Solid Oxide Fuel Cell

A fuel cell is an electro-chemical tool capable of converting chemical energy into electricity. High operating temperature of solid oxide fuel cell, between 700oC to 1000oC, causes thermal stress. Thermal stress causes gas escape, structure variability and cease operation of the SOFC before its lifetime. The purpose of the current paper is to present a method that predicts ...

Numerical Simulation of the Hydrodynamics of a Two-Dimensional Gas—Solid Fluidized Bed by New Finite Volume Based Finite Element Method

n this work, computational fluid dynamics of the flow behavior in a cold flow of fluidized bed is studied. An improved finite volume based finite element method has been introduced to solve the two-phase gas/solid flow hydrodynamic equations. This method uses a collocated grid, where all variables are located at the nodal points. The fluid dynamic model for gas/solid two-phase flow is based on ...

A two dimensional Simulation of crack propagation using Adaptive Finite Element Analysis

Finite element method (FEM) is one of the most famous methods which has many applications in varies studies such as the study of crack propagation in engineering structures. However, unless extremely fine meshes are employed, problem arises in accurately modelling the singular stress field in the singular element area around the crack tip. In the present study, the crack growth simulation has b...
